Mysterious underwater structure: Cuba Sunken City

In the book Underworld: The Mysterious Origins of Civilization, Graham Hancock examines the presence of submerged structures that have been discovered around the world. The author discusses sites that now lie at approximately 120 meters (395 feet) below sea level, which comes to no surprise since the sea level never fell below this mark during the time Homo Sapiens walked the earth. To this date, a singular exception is represented by the Cuban Underwater City discovered by Paulina Zelitsky and Paul Weinzweig. The submerged structure is under 700 meters (2300 feet).

The Cuban Underwater City is composed by structures immersed by deep water and were discovered by a joint Canadian-Cuban research expedition composed by the offshore engineer Paulina Zelitsky, the husband Paul Weinzweig, and their teams. The submerged structure is composed by massive smooth stones, large circles, pyramids, smooth blocks of stone, structures symmetrically organized as in an urban development. Some rocks appear stacked upon each other while others are at much further distance.

The initial estimation is at around 6,000 years old. According to Archeology World, when interviewed, Paul Weinzweig said that the structures appear as “some kind of megaliths you’d find on Stonehenge or Easter Island. Some structures within the complex may be as long as 400 meters wide and as high as 40 meters.” According to the researchers, the structure show very distinct shapes and symmetrical designs of a non-natural type. In fact, scientists in Cuba, the U.S., and elsewhere, confirmed their possible anthropogenic origin. With lowering sea-level, it is possible that Cuba and Mexico were once connected. This facilitates the theory that the city must have been built during this period of time. And considering the shape and formation of these pyramids, they appear similar to the ones built by the Mayan and Aztecs. Researchers also inform that some structures have carvings that have not yet been identified and deciphered. Another important aspect to consider is the location of the ruins. They appear to be at the base of a mud volcano and on a fault line. This might prove an historical connection with ancient civilizations that preferred building and locating their cities at the bottom of volcanoes as the land is more fertile.

Cuban underwater cityAlthough the numerous speculations, the underwater city of Cuba might confirm the theory that across the millennia some man-made structures have been claimed by nature. In this case, it is possible the structure was initially built at higher altitude and subsequently sunk to its present depth through tectonic activity. Or the city was built at present altitude but was covered by the ocean as a consequence of sea-level-rise. Cataclysms play an important aspect in the history of the planet and its inhabitants. After-all, the legend of Atlantis, disappearing and falling into the ocean, might not appear so unrealistic.
